On Base % Slugging % Home Runs RBI Walks OPS
...Yet I have never sniffed the playoffs

Correct guys.
When is an American League team going to get this guy and make him their DH? I can think of a few teams who should be willing to take him...

Correct guys. When is an American League team going to get this guy and make him their DH? I can think of a few teams who should be willing to take him... If those numbers are valid, and I’m not questioning them, I’m thinkin’ there has to be some kind of secret only the “MLB Fraternity” is aware of. Maybe he’s gay, a wife beater, or has some other tawdry little secret that a team doesn’t want to deal with in their clubhouse. Or, maybe his agent’s already put out the word that he wants a 10year $200M deal. At any rate, its difficult for me to believe every team in contention in the ML is just to Sensible to run the numbers like you did. Maybe someone will find out and let us know.

Woooooowwwww........... I really don't even know where to begin with that one. Does that mean you think every single MLB GM except the one he’s playing for is a complete dolt who doesn’t understand what the numbers mean?

I’m not say any of those things are in fact true, but there have been players who had at least one of those problems and had difficult finding a team to play for. And by adding the caveat, “some other tawdry little secret”, I thought I made it clear that it could be any of a million things that’s stopping him. So what do you think the reason is?

Why even go there when you don't have one ounce of proof to even suggest such a thing? It's a monetary/economic issue, length of contract issue, and fit in offense issue. Not to mention a paradigm shift in some teams thinking about how to build lineups. Absolutely none of it had to do with your "reasoning", if you even want to call it that.

Do you work in a ML front office, are you an agent, are you making some kind of “educated” guess, or do you have some kind of personal relationship with him. I don’t doubt what you’re saying, but since I don’t follow any news about Adam Dunn, I was just wondering if your information was public or private. What kind of paradigm shift in how to build a lineup wouldn’t want to include one of the top offensive machines in the game?

I don’t doubt what you’re saying, but since I don’t follow any news about Adam Dunn, I was just wondering if your information was public or private. What kind of paradigm shift in how to build a lineup wouldn’t want to include one of the top offensive machines in the game? All of it is public and common baseball sense. Dunn was looking for a 4year/56M deal last offseason. Outside of the big boy Yankees and a few other teams locking up more pressing needs (Cubs and Dempster + Bradley, Phillies and Raul, Rays and Pat for example) there wasn't alot of money to be spent by alot of teams last offseason. Bobby Abreu, one of the most consistent players of the past decade, couldn't do better than a 5M/1y deal. Dunn also made his preference to stay in the NL known as well. He may not be a good defensive player, but he's not yet ready to assume a full time DH role. Not too many AL teams had holes at DH, and the ones that did, aren't big spending types. A's certainly didn't have the money to go after Dunn, for example. Mariners signed Dunn-lite in Branyan for far less than they could have gotten Dunn. Dunn's propensity for K's and low average make him more of a luxury player than a guy you build your offense around, IMO. His power and OBP numbers are great to have if you got him, but to me, he's not a "we have got to get this guy, and get this guy now" type. Historically you don't see too many guys like him with offenses built around him because of his inconsistencies. He's more Kingman than Ryan Howard, in case you want to throw RH into this. There were a number of FA's that provide more total value than him available last year, and almost all were able to be signed for less than Dunn wanted. Factor all that in, and the Nats being a bad team with only one reason to come see them play (Zimm), and that is why they were the highest bidders for him. Were we in a normal economic state, Dunn would have gotten a bigger deal, and more AL teams would have taken a shot on him. That is also why he only signed a 2 year deal. When that is up, in theory the market should have came up at least a bit, and he could get a better deal on a better team. Per the paradigm shift, speed and defense is making a huge comeback in the game. Dunn is the anti speed/defense guy. Teams want to build around speed and defense, and if they have those needs filled AND money to go get a guy like Dunn, they will. But most teams didn't have the money to go get him, so they passed. When his deal is up, an AL team will throw some money at him and make him their DH. Outside of Abreu and O-Dog, Dunn was hit the hardest by the economic state and paradigm shift.
