The results are in, as Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven are now Hall of Famers.

In looking at the votes for others, a few things came to mind:
Harold Baines - 4.8% of the vote - officially removed from ballot
While Baines is not a Hall of Fame player in my mind, he was one of the top 5 DH's of all time. He had more home runs, walks, RBI and hits than Jim Rice, who is now in the Hall. For his career he had 2,866 hits, 384 home runs, and 1,624 RBI. However, he never hit 30 home runs and was more consistently good than great.
Mark McGwire
Fewer votes this year than last. Not sure that his 'confession' to using steroids helped his cause.
Rafael Palmeiro
While Canseco's allegations against him likely would have cost him votes, I would think he would have got more votes had he not tested positive. Numbers alone, he is a first ballot guy no doubt. 11% of the vote does not bode well for him.
Juan Gonzalez
Another guy dogged by steroid allegations, he was dominant for an 11 year stretch. Was done by 'age' 33 but still has worthy numbers. 5.2% of the vote his first try barely keeps him on the ballot.
Larry Walker
20% of the vote for a guy who is a career .313 hitter with 383, homers, 1311 RBIs and the 1997 MVP. I think he falls just short in my book but was as good as they come in his prime. Hitting in Coors Field in the era he did will only deter voters, but had he stayed healthy more often (only played 140+ games 4 times in a season), he may have got more votes.
Edgar Martinez
Actually received fewer votes this year than last! 36.2% voted for him last year while 32.9% voted for him this year. I wonder what Edgar did in the last year to lose votes from 3.3% of the writers?
I doubt he will ever get in, but he is the greatest DH there has ever been, up to this point. He would get my vote.
Jeff Bagwell
Never mentioned in any of the Mitchell Report yet still only gets 42% of the vote. Again, you can think what you will about the era, but his numbers are as good as they get. He was done at age 37, but from 1991-2004, few were as durable and productive as him.
I believe Bagwell, Larkin, and Edgar deserve the call, and hopefully they get it next year. Other than Bernie Williams, I don't believe there are any new names in 2012 that will receive much consideration.
2013 will bring an unbelievable class:
Bonds
Biggio
Clemens
Piazza
Schilling
Sosa
...to name a few.
What do you guys think about this years results?
