While I noted the cheap shot at BBF, why is this news? I haven't had my athletes do anything other than dynamic stretching for many years. My last year of coaching basketball was in 2010 and we didn't static stretch then. My softball teams have never static stretched. We have a trainer full time on staff at our HS and he is one of the top, if not the top, trainer in our state. He has given presentations on all kinds of HS athletic concerns from proper stretching (dynamic), to current concerns for transfer of ... for wrestling to concussions for football. For all of the time I was a baseball coach, he and I worked out a plan for our athletes including band work, cardio work involving sprints and not long distance, ... While I don't profess to be some guru, certainly my athletes have had the best and latest best practices as per our trainer. Oh, btw, we are one of only a few HS in our state with a full care training room to include electrical stimulation, ultra sound treatments, water therapy (various), and an open door physical where our athletes can walk on it should they need his services. So, on the site I moderate, I have often made the point that static stretching is not only not beneficial to the athlete but has the ability to do harm.
