I'm sure some of you have thought about or even put together a recruiting video for your child or yourself in hopes of getting colleges to notice. While I am of the opinion that these aren't necessarily helpful, they aren't necessarily harmful either, unless you are this guy:

Now while Deadspin seems to take pleasure in making this kid look bad, I am posting this to show what not to do:
Do Not:
- Mix your video to music
- Point to the camera and say "I wanna play for you coach!"
- Spend 2 minutes showing your workout routine (or any time for that matter)
- Bunt a ball foul and run down the line anyway to show your speed
Do:
- Show your swing (With game clips as well) if you are a hitter
- Show your arm - from the mound or your position (Game clips preferred)
- Show your speed in a game clip
- Show your defense in a game clip
Basically think about how professional you want to be. This is a job interview. Show your skills in an applicable area, present yourself well and hope for the best.
This is not the first video I have seen like this. In college I remember one of my coaches showing me a video of a kid throwing off of a mound is sweatpants and and untucked shirt. All the video was was a static camera set up behind him as he threw balls to the backstop. No catcher. No game clips. No radar gun readings. It was bad.
I feel bad for this kid because now the video has gotten out and he will be the butt of many jokes. Let this serve as a warning to those of you who are thinking about doing a video. At the very least keep it professional and to the point. Make sure they know who you are, where you are from, and how to contact you. Other than that, show them you can play, not that you can run along the beach
