Lil polo very encouraged by coaches to take strength training instead of team sports for his junior year..lil polo likes the "pump" and "high" of weight training .he joins the healthclub too.playing golf lifting weights no problem,,PICK up a baseball make about 10 throws and severe elbow pain tennis elbow,, never ever hurt until the excessive weight training during goldf season BUT only hurst when he pitches..physical therapy next week ..hopefully he can pitch this year,,so AGAIN I WARN parents abot WEIGHT TRAINING for young teenagers.this is very upsetting to see yor son injured because of excessive gripping and tearing and strain of muscles because coaches want them to mature faster than they should.I warned my son to go with light weights and strive for a "swimmers body"but once they're out of your sight theres not much you can do..

For under 16 yo players body weight exercises along with some medicine ball work and such stuff are better suited

Wog I suspect the traditional baseball world has done more damage to your son than this workout program. How do you know it was not his golfing technique that was the problem? What specific weight training exercise damaged the muscles of his lateral epicondyle. Have you been sending X-rays of your sons growth plates to Dr Marshall on your son's birthday to make sure you have not destroyed the head of his radius bone growth plate? Kharma will have the mri back soon,,its tennis elbow which is caused by OVERUSE,,the kid has been lifting weights in strength training class at school then he comes home and goes to the healthclub.for as much as i warned him about weight training the endorphine high the want to be stronger and faster the 16 year old brain all probably helped.heres why i dont think its golf or baseball..he pitches and NEVER complained about elbow pain until he picked up a ball a week ago.He has a fluid golf swing and I've seen him drive greens 317 yards plus, and never complain or whince.I believe by "deduction" this is a weight lifting injury from abuse.thanks for the concern and reply

Wog I'm sure you told your son that he should do only one set to exhaustion per muscle group so I don't know how overuse comes in. With weight lifting kids don't have the benefit you you have had to stay away from multiple sets. If his injury is from the weights I would say he over exerted a muscle. I guess you could call that overuse but I would call it misuse. He isn't going out pitching once a week by any chance is he? Sounds like you have a good golfer there. Kharma after reading about this as much as I could online.I would say in this particular case it is from weightlifting..there is no pain hitting a golf ball OR when lifting weights.the reason we even found out about this is because he picked up a ball after about a 2 month vacation from baseball.the injury could also be from a constant gripping like a golf club or a bar for weight training.he has complained now about some discomfort in BOTH elbows which tells me it isnt from pitching and imo he doesnt hit enough golf balls to hurt himself and if his golf mechanics were so damaging it would be unlikely for a 135 lb kid to hit balls 300 yards without much effort..now if 3 putting caused elbow pain I might buy that...LOL.thanks again, kharma I'll know more soon.

I think what exercises, lift/rep scheme, and form needs to be addressed here.

I think what exercises, lift/rep scheme, and form needs to be addressed here. cosm i think its too late for a course on how to lift weights ,i'm sure he was taught that in strength training and by several coaches..I always told him no ore than 10 reps always light light weight..I always wanted to scare him OFF of heavy weights by telling him he will loose his fast twitch muscle speed..the problem is when kids this age get alone, they try to impress their buddies they are trying to looked pumped for the girls and then abuse.the kid overdid it.I cant blame me, the coaches or nobodize.NOW its time to lay odff ANY weight training UNTIL we are 100% i'm sure he'll get a series of exercises to help his elbow but that will be about all he does until we're ready this spring..hopefully..glad i caugt this injury now..when he just happened to pick up a baseball.
